Dennis D. Marzec
From 2010 through 2012, Mr. Marzec served as the Chief Operating Officer with the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (Metrolink), the nation’s third largest commuter rail operation based upon directional route miles. In that role, he was responsible for the safe and efficient movement of over 169 passenger and 100-frieight trains each day over the intricate 512-mile network.
In addition to transportation, Mr. Marzec was also responsible for system safety, for the administration of multiple services contracts, for all mechanical, engineering/maintenance of way, signal & train control, train dispatching, capital project expenditures, and railroad operating material inventory/procurement functions and Positive Train Control. During his tenure as COO, Mr. Marzec was able to reduce operating costs by $10M, while reducing injuries and rule violations throughout the network.
Mr. Marzec started his rail career in 1977 with the former Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe in the Chicago Corwith Terminal. It was his success at Santa Fe that led to his recruitment to the Kansas City Southern where his career advancement continued in a number of senior field operating roles. Under his leadership, KCS was awarded the “Harriman Gold,” the highest industry safety award for 3-consectutive years.
With recognition as a leading presence in national rail professional groups, Mr. Marzec has achieved certifications in safety, health, and hearing conservation from Texas A&M University and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California Southern University. He has served as an AAR representative and railroad member representative on a number of Federal Railroad Administration rail operating technical groups.
